Ways to give to the Darling Library

Donating books to the Library

We love getting donations! To donate books, contact the Darling Library Acquisitions Manager by email (library_acq @ hiu.edu) or by phone at (714) 879-3901, ext. 1218.

If we receive duplicates or books that do not fit with our curriculum needs we can find a suitable home for them. Rather than hold a book sale, we have commissioned Better World Books to manage our used book sale online (see below).

We send them our discards and they display and sell them online and we receive a percentage on consignment. Part of the proceeds also goes to a literacy initiative, Books for Africa. See more information about our use of Better World Books on our blog.

Buying used books for yourself

If you don’t have any books to donate but want to buy books instead, you could still support the Darling Library through purchasing our used books. Go to the Better World Books Library Locator at http://www.betterworldbooks.com/library.aspx and enter our zip code (92831). From there you can browse the Hope International University Darling Library’s “online sidewalk sale.” (Shipping is always free within the U.S. and only $3.95 international! )

It’s a “Win! Win! Win! ” situation!

Not only does the Darling Library get money that can be used to purchase books we need, but we support global literacy, AND you get to buy books conveniently online at a great price!

Buying new books for the Library

The Darling Library now has a Wish List on Amazon.com! These are books that our faculty have requested in support our curriculum but we have not yet been able to buy.

You can link directly to our Wish List or, when you are shopping on Amazon, click on the "Wish List" button and search for Darling Library in "Find Someone’s List." You can sort the list by priority (high to low), price, date added, or title.

You don't have to purchase fromAmazon. For your convenience, you can print the list and take it with you -- or view it on your smart phone -- while you’re shopping in a book store! Then you can bring the book in or send it to our address. When we receive it, we will take it off our Wish List and send you an in-kind receipt for your donation.

If you do purchase from Amazon, it will automatically be removed from our Wish List and you will have the option of selecting our shipping address to send it right to us! Your name will appear as the purchaser in the packing slip, but please include your contact information in the gift message. See more information on How the Amazon Wish List Works.

Buying new books for yourself

If you simply go to Amazon.com from the Darling Library's website and buy something, Amazon will give us up to 15% of the purchase price for the referral.
