5. When I check books out, how long may I keep them?

Books are generally checked out for a period of 30 days. After that time they are considered overdue and fines begin accumulating at a rate of 25 cents per book per day from the due date. All overdue books and fines must be resolved before more books can be checked out. For a detailed explanation of circulation policies, please see the Patron Handbook or contact the Public Services Manager.

To find out what you currently have checked out, go to WebVoyáge and Login with your barcode (University ID number) and your last name. Note: you may need to enter three or six zeros ahead of your six digit University ID number.

7. What is the difference between "Reference" and "Reserve"?

Reference materials are for use in the Library only and may not be checked out. Primarily, these are reference works such as dictionaries, directories, and encyclopedias. The Reference collection is located on the 2nd floor.

Reserve materials are also (usually) reserved for in-library-use only. These materials are in especially high demand and are restricted to short-term loans (usually 2 hours) in order to allow better access to a greater number of people. Reserve items are only available upon request at the Circulation Desk. Some materials are temporarily put on Reserve by faculty for the duration of a course and  later returned to the main collection. Certain research tools that are always in high demand such as Kittel's Theological Dictionary of the New Testament and current editions of style manuals are on Permanent Reserve.

Fines will accrue hourly for overdue Reserve items.

To find lists of materials on Reserve for specific courses, search WebVoyáge using the Course Reserve Search.

8. What is the difference between "Main" and "Reference"?

Main status refers to those books in an area of the Library known as the Circulating Collection or the Main Stacks located on the 1st Floor. Circulating books are arranged by Dewey Decimal call number and may be checked out for a period of four (4) weeks. Videos and Audiocassette Tapes shelved in the Main collection may be checked out for seven (7) days. Fines will accrue for overdue Circulating items at a rate of 25 cents per day from the due date. Overdue books and fines must be resolved before additional books may be checked out.

Reference materials are for use in the Library only and may not be checked out. Primarily, these are reference works such as dictionaries, directories, and encyclopedias. The Reference collection is located on the 2nd Floor arranged in Dewey Decimal call number order.

See Handouts for a subject guide and summary of the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
