George P. Taubman was a prominant member of the Long Beach community from 1915 when he was called to pastor the First Christian Church until his death in 1947. To honor his contributions to the community, the City of Long Beach commissioned a larger than life-sized bust in his likeness upon his retirement in 1939.

It was commissioned in 1939 to local sculptors and was unveiled in 1942 in a ceremony to honor Dr. Taubman. It was placed in the City Hall and spent time in the public library. The bust currently resides in the Darling Library of Hope International University (left). It was returned to the school during the 75th Anniversary celebration in 2003 after a lengthy stay at the Long Beach First Christian Church where Dr. Taubman had ministered.
